Once
you're in Heriot you know you've arrived in the Borders. Driving south on the A7,
the bleak open landscape of Middleton Moor gives way to the softer rolling
hills of what is recognised as true Border countryside.
This small farming village has a rich artistic and musical history. Members of The Incredible String Band lived next door in Heriot Toun Cottages whilst potters and painters lived in the village itself. William Gillies, the renowned Scottish artist who lived nearby in Temple regularly painted here.
It is believed that the last wolf in Britain was shot here, on Heriot Toun Hill! If you would liked to find out more about Heriot please visit http://www.heriot.info/history
*********************************************WINTER MONTHS*******************************************************
We've had unusually hard winters the last couple of years and the studio is difficult in snowy conditions; especially getting up the track - it can be very slippy. Also, in a northerly wind the road can block, so without trying to sound like a doom-monger, please bear this in mind when you book the studio. We don't have a vehicle to pull you out if your car gets stuck so responsibility lies with you! We'll endeavour to clear the track and the path to the studio in the morning, but if it continues to snow you'll need to do the digging yourself - there will be a snow shovel here. So please think before you come - you need to be self sufficient during the winter months.
