Scenic Photograph of Heriot

2006 WINTER POEM

Magi Gibson

Heriot Toun, December 2006

outside the wind howls
rain rattles against the glass

inside we are snug, wrapped
in memories of summer, and warm blankets

this is a place of trees and sky
where the soul shakes off its city fetters

where the wind beats the timbers
till something deep inside vibrates

and the small tender core of our being
wakes, casts off its creaking armour

dances wild and free across the floor
howls happy at the moon
