Heriot Toun in winter

2006 SUMMER POEM

Thomas A Clark

Blessing

a blessing on the house
from flags to roof-tree
may its chimney never tremble
may its lintel be confirmed
a tune always in its hearth
brightness in its threshold
may its latch be lifted
may its well never fail
with fresh bread on the table
a health in every glass
a blessing on the host
a blessing on the guest
may there be trust between them
light and shade in their conversation
